Egomaniac: Sick Like Me/New Music Wednesday

This is very very true. Almost every time I've eaten from Wendy's, I've gotten sick. And it's not like I order the raw meat surprise or something. One time it was a Frostee! I mean for god's sake, if you get me sick by feeding me half melted ice cream in a cup, well then I don't need you. At the comic shop I work at, there's a White Castle out front. There've been days where I'd get White Castle for lunch, and then go home to have Liz say "Let's get Taco Bell for dinner!" That's a scary combination to make for most people, but it doesn't faze me. But Wendy's...

Also, this is (to the best of my knowledge,) the last comic I drew my kitchen in, so the next time you see it, things'll look different, because my parents redid the kitchen. So we've got that to look forward to.

Also two: This is why I generally don't draw fight scenes, heh. The "Whugh!" panel is a pretty weak looking punch.

Also three: I totally stole Lysol Jones' design on Wendy. I thought it was awesome, so I went with it.

So, if you know anything about me, you know how much I love finding new bands and hearing new music. So in the interest of that, I'm gonna start posting videos to songs on Wednesdays. I was gonna do it on Tuesdays, but I didn't have time and figured "why not just make it new music Wednesdays?" So there you have it! I listen to lots of different kinds of music, so hopefully you'll find some new to you band and just fall in love with them. I love it when that happens! (Yeah, I'll just repost this same description every time, heh.)

Up this week:

"I Want You," by Danko Jones. I honestly don't remember how I came across Danko Jones, but I'm glad I did, cause these guys are one of my favorite bands right now. I can listen to all their albums on repeat over and over and not get tired of them. They have a new album coming out in March, which I've already got preordered. I can't wait! I'd expect to see some more Danko on here as weeks go by. Why they're wearing lipstick in this, I dunno.

Supergirl/New Music Wednesday

You know, the funny thing is that I don't even care that much for Supergirl, but I really dug Mai's costume so I figured I'd draw it. Except I gave her shorter hair. I haven't drawn a fully finished Superhero drawing in a while, so it was strange going back there. I pretty much stick with normal people nowadays.

And I totally stole that background effect from , haha. I was thinking of going with some sort of gradient, and I ended up going a bit more extravagant than that. I hope you all like it!

First video up:

Sunless Saturday, by Fishbone. This is one of my favorite songs by my favorite band ever. The first time I ever heard Fishbone was on a rerun of Saturday Night Live when they used to show it on Comedy Central. They played this and...I want to say Everyday Sunshine? I think. Anyhow, Fishbone is a band you can't help but love. Their music is fun and energetic and angry and just plain badass. And by the way, Spike Lee directed this video. In case you were curious.

Egomaniac: Stupid Girl

(That's the movie poster in question.)

Let it be known that Kirsten Dunst is not a fan favorite here at Egomaniac HQ. (A HQ that consists of well, me and Liz.) When the movie I liked her best in is a cheerleading movie* (shut the fuck up) and she's been the female lead in three Spider-Man movies, well, it doesn't say much for her. Cause man, was she godawful in Spider-Man 3 or what?

She jsut aggrivates me, I dunno. Simon Pegg, on the other hand, I've seen in two movies, and they are two of the greatest movies ever. So, I don't know what will win out. My dislike of Snaggletooth**, or Simon Pegg's awesomeness.

This is actually how it happened, by the way. Liz saw the paper teeth and knew exactly who I was supposed to be.

*Or maybe it was Small Soldiers or Dick or Jumanji. Or maybe I just like those movies.

**Seriously, look at these two pictures. If anyone deserves the name "Snaggletooth" more, I'd like to see it. (I really wouldn't, it kills the joke.)

Egomaniac: Call of the Zombie

As you can tell by my hair and the date in the comic, this is a slightly dated one, heh. The actual news was from Halloween, and I made this comic not *that* long afterward, so you can draw your own conclusions as to how long I've been sitting on this one.

The other character in this comic is one Steve Zabelka, who you might know from another little project from the past. I've known Steve for many years, and I've only seen him in real life a handful of times, so when I had to design him for Egomaniac, I kinda just cheated and shaved Think Tank Steve's beard.

See?

You're actually supposed to read this comic in panel order, 1 through 6, but looking at it now it doesn't really seem to read that way to me. As long as you read the first panel first and the last panel last, it works, I suppose.

Egominiac: Barbeque Blues/Sketch of the whatever 2/5/2008

Okay, before I post the comic here's some backstory on this one.

Remember when I posted the first Egominiac, I said it was just gonna be a bunch of black and white comics that I didn't think I'd be able to flesh out into full-fledged comics? Well, I figured that since I wasn't going all out on those, I could afford to draw it a bit more cartoony so I'd be able to get them done quicker, and it would also differentiate them a bit more from some of my other stuff. So, I decided to try some cartoony art:

There's a couple random headshots of me in there, (including me in a mustache, cause I can't grow one.) The first cartoony attempt looked too much like something Jeffrey Brown would do, which is funny cause all the Jeffrey Brown I've read was over Liz's shoulder while she was reading it. But the one on the bottom right, I really liked. So I drew the cartoony Liz, and then I did this page of people:

followed by this page:

I was really digging the way it looked, so I did a whole comic like that:

And that's where the wheels fell off. I wouldn't call it a success, and not quite a failure, but it's far closer to a failure than a success. I may mess around with this a bit more, but I think my regular style is going to stick around for a while. I can't see myself doing the cartoony stuff full time.

And yeah, this comic is totally true. I'm such a sucker for American Idol. I can't help it! I fucking love that show!
