Failed Project Wednesday: Truer Words Were Never Spoken 4

This is the last Truer Words we did featuring any of the characters, the next one (the last one) is rather random. I also think this is my favorite of the bunch.

Notice Baird is playing a PSP. I figured I saddled myself with that fucking thing, I might as well pass that along. Part of me wants to sell it, but I figured I spent the money on it, I don't think I should. Eventually I'll buy some games for it.

The Sin City poster is a drawing I did a little ways back around when the movie was coming out. I had a lot of blank space in the background, so I figured what the hell, I'll throw it in there.

Fenris told me that the comics turned out far better looking than he expected them to. Which means either I stepped up my game (at the time,) or that he thought I wasn't that good to begin with, heh.

Other people told me that the whole run of the comic (all...five of them) was like reading an unfunny version of Think Tank. What do you guys think?

I'll wrap these comics up next week. One more left, and we're back to Egomaniac. I've got some done, so don't think that this TWWNS thing was just to stall for time. I just thought it would be fun to check these out, and finally have them see the light of day.

Egominiac: I Like Food

Egominiac? What the hell?

Yeah, it's another comic, why not? Basically, I've had a couple ideas for things I wanted to make comics since I started EM that were just not big enough to make full, good comics. So we have Egominiac, which is just short little black and white comics that make me laugh. If I have an idea that I want to share that's not going to fill a full comic, we'll go small.

Granted, this one is large, but start things off with a bang, I guess. Also, I might end up toning these from here on out, it all depends on if I can, you know, do it. Anyway.

Failed Project Wednesday: Truer Words Were Never Spoken 3

It took me for freaking ever to do those backgrounds. I took pictures of my comic shop and used them for the comic covers. I drew them in Photoshop and then pasted the colors, basically.

I'll be honest, I don't remember the girl's name.

Does it look like Tito is twisting towards her in the last panel? That's what he's supposed to be doing. I even took a picture of myself as a reference for it!

Family Secrets

So, Nick at Nite is doing this thing about "Tell us your family secrets!"

Of course I come up with something stupid to post, but when I go there, I see you have to register to post something, so I'm not gonna bother. But here's some I found.

"Only a few years ago, my family and I went to the beach and went to a restaurant on the way home to get some dinner. It started as just throwing wrappers and little pieces of food, but then our fun became a food fight to the death! When the waitress later brought us our check, we left the money and ran out. When we looked back from the car, we could see some lettuce sticking out of the blinds. "

"I dropped the bar of soap in the toliet. I put the bar of soap back on the soap holder "

"MY MOM THOUGHT I WAS AT SCHOOL ON MONDAY...... I WAS'NT I WAS AT MY BOYFRIEND'S HOUSE"

"A couple of years ago, I accidentally knocked my sisters toothbrush on the floor. Before I could pick it up, my dog grabbed it in her mouth and stole it. When i finally got it back it was covered in slobber. I just put it back on the counter and ran. That night i saw her brushing with it. Gross. "

Those all sound normal, I suppose. Then I found this one:
"i stole my parents car and crashed it over an embankment and blamed it on my little brother."

And my personal favorite:
"Maybe this is what you are looking for. This would have happened about 130 years ago. My Great Grandfather killed a Black Man in a fight and was never charged with a crime. When my Grandfather was close to death he imagined it had been him and they were coming to take him to the Gallos."

Just for the record, mine was gonna be:
"I remember one Thanksgiving, Dad killed a hooker. Things just haven't been the same without mom."

Failed Project Wednesday: Truer Words Were Never Spoken 2

And this comic introduces Tito.

I don't know what's up with the back of the judge's head, but it made sense to me at the time, apparently. Last week, I said ". If Fenris ever comes back and decides to go with this comic, I will be redrawing them all, heh." But that's more of a hypothetical thing, I guess. The five Truer Words comics are likely the only five I will ever draw.

I was pretty happy with all the comic crap I drew in there, rather than just using plain solid colors. The counter was definitely geared up to be just like the Think Tank counter, where you see it over and over.

Failed Project Wednesday: Truer Words Were Never Spoken 1

So, way back on January 6, 2006 I had announced that Fenris and I were going to start up a new comic. He would write, and I would draw. Fenris wrote four comics, and then disappeared for a long time. He came back and wrote one more, and disappeared again. I drew all five comics. When he came back, he was working on his new comic, "The Mail Order Bride," and told me that he wanted to get that going before we got back to our comic, which was known as "Truer Words Were Never Spoken."

Well, Fen disappeared again, and I haven't talked to him in a long time. And now his site is one of those parked pages, so I figure it's been almost a year since I drew these and they still haven't been seen by anyone but Liz or Steve, I can post them here. Screw it, they're part mine, right? So, here's the very first collaboration between Fenris and myself. I don't remember these comics having titles, so this is just comic one.

Although, I guess I oughta give some backstory on this first. Basically, it was a comic about two guys (Tito, the black guy, and Baird, the white guy) who worked at a comic shop. It also sold movies and stuff, I beleve. Oh, and cigaretttes. There was also the black haired girl Tanis, who smoked and hung out at the store, there was some other girl whose name I can't remember, but was (i think) a typical nerdy girl. She's in one of the later comics. There was another guy named...Marten, I think? I don't remember much about him, because we never used him. Oh, and there was a cat that lived at the store that never made it into a comic either.

Anyone who pays attention to my comics will notice that the store is essentially the same as the store in Egomaniac: Little Girls. This is the comic shop I shopped at/work at, and I'm very uncreative. So there you have it. If Fenris ever comes back and decides to go with this comic, I will be redrawing them all, heh.

Anyhow. Enough intro. Onto the comic!

Egomaniac: This is Halloween

I know, I know, I've been away for a bit. The last couple weeks kind of got away from me. As such, a Halloween comic is a day late. Life goes on.

This is what really happened, but I couldn't get the face on the girl that said it to look like her, so it's a random blonde lady I'm talking to. It did happen in class, so that explains the backgrounds.

This is the first comic I've done in Egomaniac's (admittedly short) run where I just went straight to the board with it. I didn't do any layout thumbnails, no planning (except when I tried to draw the girl's face to look like who it was.) Surprisingly, it worked out well. I can do talking head comics in my sleep!

And no, I'm not really a Halloween person. I'm just not. Sorry, I'm a curmudgeon.
------------------------------------------------------
So, I'm buying some statues from Liz's dad. Some classic Bowen statues of characters I've always liked. Here are some pictures!

We have Bullseye, Daredevil, Taskmaster, Red Skull, Baron Zemo, Bucky and Captain America. I didn't ask for the Daredevil for two reasons. One, I already have this mini bust:

and two, I also got this one from him:

Pretty fuckin' cool, huh? I need to clean it up a bit, but damn! So yeah. I may or may not keep the DD mini. We'll see.

And some more closeups.

I guess that last one was screaming for some sort of Myspace angle?

And there's one more. I don't have him yet because Liz didn't bring it yet and I didn't grab it when I was at her house last, so I'll save him for last. It's a mystery!

It's also cooler than all of these.

Soon enough I'm gonna have to rearrange my statues and make room and such, so once that's all done I'll take pictures. As you can see, I like strange characters, but I have some cool things to show.

If only I could get the pictures to turn out better. Anyone with an Olympus Stylus 800 have any advice?

Does anyone even read this?
